Tuition and Program Costs

We strive to keep the cost of education affordable and transparent. Our program costs include all books and materials, and are structured where the costs are locked when a student enrolls. Financial aid is available to those who qualify and, for most eligible students, covers a large portion of the costs. Program costs are subject to change and may take time to be published on our website. Please contact the Admissions Office for the most up-to-date cost for each program.

Federal Student Aid Programs

SCIT is approved to participate in the following federal student aid programs. Click on each to learn more.

Federal Pell Grant

Pell Grants are awarded on the basis of financial need and do not have to be repaid. They are provided by the federal government and are awarded to students who demonstrate the greatest financial need and have completed their financial aid application.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants are awarded on the basis of financial need and do not have to be repaid. They are provided by the federal government and are awarded to students who demonstrate the greatest financial need and have completed their financial aid application by the published deadlines.

Federal Direct Subsidized Loans

The federal government will pay interest on this loan while you are enrolled in college at least half-time. Eligibility is based on financial need and repayment begins six months after leaving school or dropping below half-time enrollment.

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans

Unsubsidized loans are available to all eligible students and are not based on financial need. You will accrue interest for the life of the loan, which begins accruing once the loan funds have been disbursed. You can defer paying this interest while in school, grace and periods of deferment and forbearance. If you make in-school interest payments you will have a lower monthly payment once in repayment.

Federal Parent Loans to Undergraduate Students (PLUS)

Through the Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) program, parents of undergraduate students may borrow up to the annual cost of attendance minus any financial aid. The Federal PLUS loan program is designed to assist parents of dependent undergraduate students who are unable to meet their expected parental contribution or have additional financial need that is not met with other financial aid resources. Your parents may borrow up to the cost of your education for the academic year less any estimated financial aid you receive each academic year. This loan is limited to parents who have a positive credit check.Award Amounts cannot exceed the student's cost of education minus other aid received. Repayment begins 60 days after the loan is fully disbursed in the same academic year.

Federal Work Study (FWS)

Work-study is money that students may earn by working a part time job while attending school. The program allows you to gain work experience and pay for a part of your educational expenses as you earn your award. Funds for this program come from the federal government as well as the school and are awarded based on need.

Applying for financial aid begins with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Eligibility for most financial aid programs is based on financial need and several other factors. Your eligibility is determined by the information you provide on the FAFSA (view basic eligibility criteria). In order to complete the FAFSA online, you will first need to create an FSA ID. After you have your FSA ID set up, you can log in to complete the online FAFSA form.

Applying for financial aid can be confusing and some of the questions on the FAFSA may be unclear. Our Financial Aid Office assists students (and parents) throughout the process. Our goal is to simplify and streamline the process so that you can review any aid you are eligible to receive to fund your education. Our office will work with you once you begin the admissions process.

The Net Price Calculator (NPC) is intended to help prospective students and their families estimate the "net price" for attending SCIT. It is intended to provide information regarding college cost after federal financial aid is taken into consideration. By clicking below, you acknowledge that:

  • This calculator provides a rough estimate of financial aid a prospective student may obtain and is NOT a financial aid packaging tool. It is NOT intended to calculate an individual's exact financial aid award and/or exact cost of attending college after receiving federal financial aid, if eligible.
  • Not all students will qualify for all of the aid that the calculator indicates may be available.
  • The calculator should not be used as a primary means of selecting a school.
  • The calculator is not designed to replace the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • The NPC data is derived from first-time freshmen students who are enrolled full-time.
  • The NPC data does NOT take into consideration awards that are not offered to students at time of initial awarding, such as the work-study program.

The NPC is meant to provide ONLY AN ESTIMATE of financial aid packaging a prospective student may receive, if eligible. Your individual aid package could be significantly different from that indicated on the NPC calculator depending on the information you report on the FAFSA.

Cal Grant Programs

Cal Grants are grants provided by the State of California for qualified educational institutions. Due to the need for educational institutions to recertify eligibility to receive Cal Grants, please check with the Financial Aid Office for the current awards available.

Cal Grant A

Cal Grant A awards can be used for tuition and fees. Applicants must be working toward a two-year or four-year degree.

Cal Grant B

Cal Grant B awards provide low-income students with a living allowance and assistance with tuition and fees. The minimum course length is one academic year.

Cal Grant C

Cal Grant C awards help pay for tuition and training costs at occupational or career colleges. To qualify, you must enroll in a vocational program that is at least four months long. Funding is available for up to two years, depending on the length of your program.

Applying for Cal Grant

The first step in applying for the Cal Grant is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Cal Grants must be applied for annually. The deadline to apply for the Cal Grant is March 2nd of each year. Please contact the Financial Aid Office for more information about the process.

Any veteran student seeking to study at SCIT are referred to SCIT’s Veteran and Military Coordinator during the admissions process to discuss eligibility and benefits considerations. Applicants may also be able to transfer credit based on experiential learning they received while in the military. Details and additional information are provided by the Admissions Office.

Active Duty Military

Active duty military students may be eligible to participate in the Military Tuition Assistant (TA) program as a source of financial aid to help fund eligible educational expenses. The TA program is a unique, distinct source of financial aid available to eligible servicemembers. TA is a first payer as it relates to paying for eligible educational expenses. Each of the service branches and the U.S. Coast Guard offer financial assistance for voluntary, off-duty education programs in support of service members’ personal and professional goals. The program is open to officers, warrant officers and enlisted active-duty service personnel. Each military branch has its own TA application form and procedures, which you can learn more about by clicking on the appropriate link for your service branch:

Service members need to first check with and seek approval from their Education Services Officer (ESO), military counselor, or Service prior to enrollment.

Additional Financial Aid Sources for Military and Veteran Students

Students who are eligible to receive veteran benefits or Military Tuition Assistance (TA) may also be eligible to receive federal student financial aid as an additional source of financial aid to help fund eligible educational expenses. During the admissions process, veteran and active duty military applicants have the opportunity to speak with a Financial Aid Officer to learn more about additional federal student aid benefits that they may be eligible to receive.

Other Funding Sources

Students can use multiple sources to fund their education and are not limited to just one. The goal of the Financial Aid Office is to work with each student’s individual circumstances and eligibility to determine the collection of funding sources that can support their educational pursuits. Below are other funding sources that may be considered.

Students who have any remaining balances may set up 0% interest payment plans with the school to pay remaining balances over their period of enrollment at the school.

WIOA

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a government program designed to help job seekers access the education and training needed to succeed in the labor market. WIOA programs are administered by county or city agencies to assist displaced workers. SCIT works with a variety of agencies that support WIOA and any students utilizing WIOA are referred to SCIT through their assigned counselors.

Private Loans

Private loans are available from a variety of banks and lenders. The terms and rates for alternative loans are usually not as good as the Federal Student Aid Loans, but may be a better option than using your credit card to pay your educational costs. The Financial Aid Office will assist students with the loan application process should they want to seek private loans.

Employer Tuition Reimbursement

Employers may choose to send and financially support their employees to attend college for further educational training. Various employers have supported their employees to attend SCIT by helping finance some or all of their educational expenses through their internal programs designed to develop their workforce.

Scholarships

Scholarships are essentially free money to pay for school. There are thousands of scholarships from several sponsors. Students would need to take the initiative to review eligibility criteria, application requirements and applicable deadlines to pursue. The Financial Aid Office can help students in their search for scholarships but students are advised not to rely on scholarships solely to pay for their education expenses due to the variability and uncertainty of being awarded such aid.
