A.S. BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Program Overview

The Associate of Science (AS) in Biomedical Engineering Technology program is an accelerated 1.5-year program designed to prepare students for rewarding careers as Biomedical Equipment Technicians (BMETs) and medical device repair professionals. Aligned closely with the Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification, this program equips students with the technical expertise and industry knowledge necessary to excel in healthcare technology fields.

Students will gain a strong foundation in the maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of both therapeutic and diagnostic medical devices. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on lab training, they will work with real-world equipment such as patient monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators, and other critical healthcare devices. This immersive approach ensures students understand preventative maintenance, device operations, and the compliance standards essential for healthcare technology.

The program features 5-week classes offered in the evenings to accommodate working adults, with scheduling managed entirely by the school. All books and materials are included, and classes are taught by experienced faculty from the field, providing students with a well-rounded, industry-focused education. The program begins with the Biomedical Technology diploma program embedded in its first phase, preparing students for the Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology (CABT) certification.

Graduates are ready to pursue careers in hospitals, medical centers, and medical device servicing companies, taking on essential roles that support the operation of life-saving technologies. With cutting-edge lab facilities, flexible scheduling, and a curriculum tailored for the needs of working professionals, this program offers a rare and innovative pathway to success in the dynamic field of healthcare technology.

Designed in conjunction with the Biomedical Technology program so that students are job-ready early to support a “work while you study” schedule, allowing students to acquire working knowledge of the field as they pursue a degree.

The A.S.B.E.T. program is offered mostly on-campus with some courses offered online. Courses containing substantial hands-on labs are generally those offered on-campus utilizing SCIT's instructional lab facilities.

A.S.B.E.T Curriculum

The A.S.B.E.T. program’s curriculum is designed to support a hands-on based learning experience that develops practical engineering skills and reinforces theory.
